The Space Pen is considered to be the most innovative and progressive pen in the world. There is nothing quite like this pen to date that can withstand such extreme conditions. This high-tech pen was developed for use in space with zero gravity and accompanied NASA’s first manned Apollo expedition into space in 1968. Due to a sealed and pressurised cartridge, a special ink and premium materials, the Space Pen can be used by astronauts in the gravity-free vacuum of space. Compared to common ballpoint pens, the ink in the Space Pen is pressurised by compressed nitrogen gas to continuously force it up to the ball at the tip of the pen. The specially developed viscoelastic ink flows around the refill’s ultra-hard tungsten carbide ball. This is stored in the high-precision stainless steel tip. Thanks to the hermetically sealed cartridge, the ink will not leak, evaporate or dry out – not even in a hundred years.
As a result of the highly developed technology that has been integrated into this Space Pen, it is not only used on flights into space but in other areas with extreme conditions. This writing instrument can be used underwater, on wet paper, over grease, most oily surfaces, in extreme conditions from -34 °C to +121 °C and can write at any angle.
